Cash App
Money management made easy
All your money moves in one secure, flexible place
Cash App pulls multiple money tasks into a single, approachable hub. Launched in 2013, it has evolved beyond simple peer-to-peer transfers into a broad financial toolkit with encrypted payments, speedy moves between users, stock investing, Bitcoin trading, and a Visa debit card for everyday spending.
Sending or receiving funds is straightforward. Enter a phone number, email, or $Cashtag, add an amount and optional note, then confirm with your PIN. Incoming money lands in your Cash App balance. Standard transfers are free, while instant transfers apply a small fee. Limits depend on verification: unverified accounts top out at 250 dollars per week and 1,000 dollars per 30 days, while verified users can move up to 7,500 dollars per week and 17,500 dollars per 30 days. There is also a 2,500 dollar individual transaction cap and a daily ATM withdrawal limit of 1,000 dollars.
The included Cash Card works in stores and online, and ATM withdrawals are free. Boosts add rotating discounts at select merchants, which makes day-to-day spending a bit cheaper. For investing, you can buy stocks without commission fees, a handy way to dip a toe into the market.
Crypto is available, but only Bitcoin. You can buy, sell, and store BTC, though fees are comparatively high and the crypto tools are basic next to dedicated wallets. Security for payments is robust, with encrypted data and FDIC registration that insures your wallet up to 250,000 dollars in the event of bankruptcy.
A Borrow feature rounds out the package for eligible users. It offers short-term loans from 20 to 200 dollars, due in four weeks, with a 1.25 percent weekly fee on late payments. Availability depends on age, location, an active Cash Card, and your usage and credit history. One notable limitation is reach: Cash App currently supports transfers only within the US and the UK.
Pros:
- Simple to use across features
- Consolidates payments, investing, and spending in one place
- Boosts and promos can deliver meaningful savings
Cons:
- Bitcoin trading carries high fees and limited tools
- Daily ATM withdrawals are capped
