Hand-drawn Viking platforming with heart, color, and easy controls

Oddmar is a side-scrolling action adventure that follows a hapless Viking on a quest for honor, pitting him against monsters, treacherous terrain, and Loki, the chaotic Norse deity threatening his village. It sticks to classic platforming fundamentals, but wraps them in a storybook presentation that is hard to resist.

Controls are straightforward and thoughtfully mapped. An on-screen stick handles movement in all directions. A swipe up on the right triggers a jump, and a downward swipe performs a ground slam. Tapping attacks with your weapon. Within minutes, you will be running along forest paths, leaping over rapids, smashing obstacles, collecting coins, and swatting foes without wrestling with the interface.

The real star is the production. Levels burst with a vivid color palette and painterly backdrops, while characters animate fluidly, which helps with feel and transitions between actions. Between stages, lavish cutscenes, complete with warm narration and a stirring score, push the tale forward and give Oddmar real personality. That said, these story segments can overstay their welcome, and some acts gloss over the lore or side characters instead of clarifying them. If you prefer the pace brisk, a forward button in the upper right lets you skip.

As a platformer, it rarely breaks new ground. Jumps, attacks, and collectible runs will feel familiar to genre fans. What elevates the experience is the polish and heartfelt narrative, not mechanical novelty. It is a paid title, but you can sample the opening levels at no cost to see if its blend of charm and craftsmanship lands for you.

If you want approachable controls, rich art and music, and a tale with genuine warmth, Oddmar is easy to recommend. If you crave innovation above all else, you may find the gameplay conventional, even as the presentation shines.
