GPS Test from Chartcross Limited is a compact toolkit for anyone who relies on precise positioning. It reads your device’s sensors and satellite data, showing exactly how well you are locked onto the sky and how trustworthy your current fix is.

The app supports a broad list of GNSS constellations, including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, SBAS and QZSS. A clear SNR bar chart displays satellite signal strength and the status of the network you are using. Skyview plots satellites on a rotating compass so you can see where they are overhead. Location appears both as plain text and on a world map, alongside a day and night curve and the sun’s current position for quick orientation.

Beyond raw reception, GPS Test organizes practical trip data in one place. Speed, heading and altitude are shown as readable figures. Time can be viewed from the device’s built-in GPS, the local time zone, plus sunrise and sunset, which is especially helpful before a late trail push. There is a night mode and selectable color schemes to keep the instruments legible in bright or low light.

Power users will appreciate the extensive coordinate and datum support. Grids include CH1903, Maidenhead, MGRS, OSGB, UTM and USNG, while datums such as AGD66, AGD84, ED50, NAD83, NAD27, SAD69 and WGS84 are available. The app can also refresh Assisted GPS data to help reduce the time to first fix.

A paid upgrade, GPS Test Plus Navigation, adds a simplified navigation interface, sharing of your location via SMS or email, extra dials like an altimeter and speedometer, alternative fonts and a HUD mode. Be aware of a few caveats noted by users: compass readings may not be perfect on every device, support for external USB Ublox7 GPS units is absent, and several panels are more comfortable on larger screens. Even with those trade-offs, GPS Test offers a focused, data-rich view of where you are and how you are tracking.
