Firefox Focus: The privacy browser
Private browsing with built in tracker blocking
Private browsing with built in tracker blocking
Firefox Focus is a pared back browser built for people who value privacy over bells and whistles. Every session starts fresh: it does not keep cookies, passwords, history, bookmarks or tabs, so nothing lingers once you close it. If you want to wipe everything instantly, an Erase button sits next to the address bar for one tap cleanup.
Tracking protection is the star. By default, the app blocks advertising, analytics and social trackers, and it shows a running count of what was stopped on each site. In settings, you can fine tune which protections are active, choose your preferred search engine, and switch languages. When you do need to keep a page for later, you can hand it off through the share menu to another browser or any compatible app on your device.
Because Firefox Focus strips out many third party elements, pages often load faster and use less data. That makes it handy for quick look ups or personal browsing where privacy and speed are the priorities. The trade off is significant: without tabs, bookmarks or persistent logins, it is not a great candidate to be your everyday browser.
Stability can also be uneven. The app may exhibit glitches that require closing the session, and some users report the screen turning black after returning from another app. It is also not recommended for video streaming, which can be affected by its aggressive blocking and session clearing behavior.
If you want a simple, lightweight way to browse without leaving a trail, Firefox Focus is a strong companion. Just be prepared to offload pages you want to keep, and to use a more full featured browser for multitasking, media heavy sites, and long sessions.
