Smart toolkit for BLO surveys and polling station checks
BLOApp is a free productivity tool from the Election Commission of India built specifically for Booth Level Officers. Previously known as GARUDA, it pulls a broad set of field tasks into one clear, straightforward interface that aims to simplify on-the-ground electoral work.
The app covers the essentials BLOs handle daily. You can run door-to-door verification drives, capture precise GIS location data for polling sites, and upload fresh images of polling stations to keep records current. It also helps assess the presence of Extended Minimum Facilities and Assured Minimum Facilities, a critical step in ensuring stations meet required standards. Beyond field checks, BLOApp supports routine administration, including filling out forms, assisting with new voter registrations, and viewing consolidated elector counts. The layout prioritizes ease of use, so finding the right module for each task feels intuitive.
However, reliability remains a sticking point. Users report sign-in problems, including difficulty logging in and unexpected logouts that interrupt work mid-task. Uploading voter photos can be troublesome, which undercuts the value of on-site documentation. There are also complaints of lag and seemingly endless loading screens, both of which can stall verification rounds and delay updates that need to be filed promptly.
BLOApp brings together the right tools for the job, and its feature set aligns well with what BLOs need in the field. Yet the recurring technical issues make consistent use frustrating. If the developers can stabilize logins, smooth out loading behavior, and improve media uploads, the app would better realize its promise as a central hub for surveys, station assessments, and routine electoral workflows. As it stands, it is useful, but patience may be required when the interface slows or sessions unexpectedly end.
