Wireless music sync and easy playlist control

Winamp by Nullsoft revives a classic idea for today: keep your desktop library and your device in lockstep over Wi-Fi. The app focuses on straightforward listening, with clean navigation and controls that make everyday playback simple.

Syncing is the star. Point it at your PC library and it moves albums and playlists to your phone over your home network, removing the cable shuffle. Once transferred, you can browse by artist, genre or album, view cover art, shuffle or repeat, and build playlists tailored to your mood. Format support is broad, covering MP3, AAC, FLAC and WAV, so most collections slot right in.

There is room for personalization too. Themes and categorization options help your library feel organized, and you can showcase what you are into across popular social platforms if you want to share. Beyond local files, the app includes online listening options with radio streams and podcasts, plus directories that make finding new shows straightforward.

As it is still in beta, some staples from the desktop era are missing. There is no equalizer, no visualizations, no skins, and SHOUTcast integration is not present. Playlist handling could also be smoother. You cannot add a song to a playlist from within the Playlist screen, a small but noticeable friction point.

Taken together, Winamp is best for listeners who value painless wireless sync and simple controls over a long list of tweaks. If you need advanced audio tuning and deep customization right now, you may feel limited. If your priority is getting your music from PC to phone with minimal fuss, it already delivers and hints at more to come.
