Venmo
Send money quickly and securely
Social wallet with peer payments QR codes and split purchases
Venmo blends a digital wallet with a social feed to make everyday money moves feel conversational. You can send or request cash from contacts using a phone number or email, or scan a profile QR code to be sure you have the right person. Each payment can include notes or emojis, and unless you change privacy settings, public activity appears in a shared feed where amounts stay hidden.
Funding options are flexible. Link a bank account or debit card, and you can also add a credit card for spending. Transfers out to a credit card are not supported, so withdrawals go to a bank or debit card. The service draws from your Venmo balance first, then prompts you to cover the rest from your linked sources.
Recent updates add useful touches for individuals and businesses. Split Purchases through PayPal lets you divide eligible PayPal checkout totals and settle everything inside Venmo, which is ideal for shared orders and group gifts. Business profiles have matured too, giving entrepreneurs a more professional way to present services and manage payments while staying connected with customers through the app’s social layer. Security has tightened with data encryption, stricter privacy controls, and more detailed transaction histories. If you ever lose your device, you can remotely log out of active sessions from the web.
There is growing support for crypto access as well. Eligible users can fund MoonPay directly with Venmo, lowering the barrier to buying or selling digital assets through that partner. Keep in mind that certain actions, like instant transfers and card-funded payments, include fees. Also, Venmo currently operates only in the United States, which limits cross-border use.
For U.S. users who value easy bill splitting, social context, and a wallet that ties neatly to bank and card accounts, Venmo is a polished option with thoughtful controls and continuous refinements.
Pros:
- Free digital wallet with peer-to-peer payments
- Connects to bank accounts, debit and credit cards

- Encryption, remote logout, stricter privacy and detailed histories
- Split Purchases via PayPal and enhanced business profiles
Cons:
- Service is limited to the United States
