Share posts media and polls with flexible controls

X, previously known as Twitter, remains a lively space for short-form updates, media, and conversation. You can publish text, images, GIFs from an in-app library, links, and videos, then see them populate your profile, your timeline, and the feeds of followers. Navigation is straightforward, with clear icons for Home, Search, Notifications, and Direct Messages keeping everything within easy reach.

Composing is simple. Tap the plus button to start a post, with a standard 280 character cap and a circular counter that changes color as you approach the limit, even showing negative numbers if you keep typing. Polls are built in as well, with two to four choices and a timer you set in days, hours, and minutes. Results update with live percentages. The four-option cap can be restrictive, so longer surveys often need multiple posts, and because anyone can create more than one account, poll outcomes are not always representative.

X offers meaningful control over who can see or engage with you. Profiles can be public or private, and replies on individual posts can be limited to everyone, verified accounts, people you follow, or only accounts you mention. On desktop, scheduled posting is available, but that convenience is missing on handheld devices, which pushes heavy planners toward third-party tools.

The business model leans on advertising. Promoted posts appear throughout the timeline and can even surface in conversation threads, which some users will find distracting. A paid subscription reduces ad volume by up to 50 percent. Search is another limitation for casual visitors, since full search now requires signing in, leaving logged-out users with only a curated Explore view.

The rebrand from Twitter to X replaced the blue bird with a stark X and swapped terms like tweets and retweets for posts and reposts. Some branding remnants remain on desktop, and the platform signals broader ambitions to evolve into an everything app.
