Superimpose, from developer Pankaj Goswami, is built around one clear goal: place a subject from one image convincingly onto another. Instead of shuffling files to a desktop editor, you can craft composites right on your device with a focused toolkit that makes cutouts and blending approachable.

The workflow is straightforward. Pick a foreground and a background, then isolate your subject using flexible masking options. You get a one-tap color similarity picker that selects contiguous regions, plus rectangle, ellipse, lasso and brush tools for manual control. Gradient masks are on hand too, with linear, bilinear and radial styles for smooth transitions. Once your subject is separated, an edge smoothing control helps reduce halos and rough borders, making the cutout sit more naturally in the scene.

Positioning and alignment are handled by familiar transforms: move, resize, scale, rotate and flip. To match lighting and tone between layers, you can adjust hue, saturation, contrast and exposure on both foreground and background. When you want more stylistic flair, there are 18 blend modes and overlays to explore, including texture blends, border overlays and double exposure with adjustable transparency. Finished creations can be shared through email or your preferred social apps.

This focus on compositing is a strength, but also a limitation. If you are looking for an all-in-one editor, the feature set leans heavily toward cutouts rather than broader retouching. There is no redo function, which can slow down iteration when you are experimenting. Reports of slow performance and a lack of recent updates further temper the experience.
