Match tiles to charge slugs and conquer cavern duels
Slugterra: Slug It Out 2 doubles down on its puzzle combat formula with a bigger roster of slugs, sharper visuals, and a story that taps directly into the series’ lore. You step into the boots of Eli Shane to investigate missing slugs across the 99 caverns, with Burpy by your side and plenty of familiar foes to face along the way.
Gameplay sticks to the tried and true match-3 core. Linking sets on the board builds the energy you need to send your slugs into battle. Larger chains generate more resources, letting you unleash stronger shots and time abilities strategically. Early wins feed your collection with new creatures, and treasure chests and rewards keep the menagerie growing. As a sequel, it offers more slugs to raise and evolve, which meaningfully expands team combinations and encourages experimentation.
There is solid variety in how you play. Story mode carries the narrative through new locales, Duel offers quick one-on-one clashes, and Multiplayer adds a competitive edge for those who want to test lineups against other players. The presentation is a noticeable step up, from brighter effects to cleaner character art, which makes every slug volley more satisfying to watch.
The flip side is a difficulty curve that ramps up faster than expected. Without a deep bench of upgraded slugs, later encounters can feel like brick walls. Frequent video ads can interrupt the rhythm of puzzling and battling, and stability hiccups, including occasional crashes, can cut promising runs short.
If you enjoyed the first game’s mechanics, this follow-up keeps what works and broadens the best parts with more slugs, better graphics, and multiple modes. Just be ready for tougher spikes, ad interruptions, and the odd crash as the price of entry in an otherwise engaging puzzle brawler.
