Endless Pac-Man with power-ups and retro bite
Pac-Man 256 reimagines the maze you know into a never-ending climb, and the result is a smart, nervy spin on an arcade legend. Hipster Whale, the studio behind Crossy Road, takes the core loop of gobbling pellets and dodging ghosts and injects it with a modern hook: a creeping glitch that devours the screen from the bottom, forcing you to keep pushing upward.
The premise is simple, but the layers are clever. You still munch pellets, fruits, and the classic power pills that flip the hunter-prey dynamic for a brief window. What really reshapes the pace is the arsenal of abilities scattered through the corridors. Pick up a lightning strike and zap a lane of ghosts, snag a freeze and stall a crowded corner. Each power triggers the instant you collect it, so route planning becomes a genuine puzzle. Swipes steer your turn-by-turn movement with a clean, predictable feel, making tight escapes satisfying rather than fussy.
Progression leans on a free-to-play backbone. Coins you collect feed into upgrades that extend durations or widen effects for your favorite powers. Early boosts come quickly, but the curve stiffens over time, which subtly nudges you toward spending. Lives are treated as credits, capped at six, and they drain fast, so you will either wait for them to refill or pay to keep the run going.
Aesthetically, it is a loving tribute. Chunky pixels meet neon flourishes, with playful glitch effects and remixed music that nods to the original without feeling stuck in the past. The package is easy to jump into, tough to put down, and occasionally constrained by its timers. If you can live with that trade-off, this endless maze is a sharp homage with just enough new tricks.

- Faithful yet fresh take on classic Pac-Man
- Enjoyable variety of power-ups
