MiChat blends private messaging with social discovery, aiming to be a place to talk with friends and spark new connections. At its core, it handles one-on-one and group conversations with text, images, and voice notes, and it packs a generous sticker library for more expressive chats. Syncing your phone number helps surface which of your contacts are already on MiChat, and you can invite others to join you.

The app puts discovery front and center. The New Friendship tab lists people in your vicinity, so you can jump straight into a conversation with someone nearby. Interest-based chatrooms let you drop into ongoing discussions, while the quirky Message Tree feature lets you post a note on a virtual tree or pick one and start chatting with its author, using either text or voice messages. Finding people is flexible too, thanks to a searchable MiChat ID, customization of that ID once per account, and a built-in QR code scanner for quick adds. You can change your profile name anytime.

There are, however, notable limitations. MiChat does not offer voice calls or video calls, which will be a deal-breaker for users who rely on real-time calling. The absence of an Online indicator makes it hard to know when someone is available, so you often send a message and wait without status cues. Contact suggestions generate persistent notifications and cannot be switched off, and you cannot remove unwanted friend requests.

The biggest concern is moderation. Many users report spammy or fraudulent accounts, including gambling and adult promotions. Reporting tools exist, but the lack of a blocking option and weak enforcement leave you exposed to repeat nuisances. If you want a place to chat, share photos, and explore nearby conversations, MiChat offers plenty to try, but the safety controls and missing calling features hold it back.
