When RCS is active, conversations step up with read receipts, high quality photo and video sharing, and richer group threads. Because RCS uses data, it can keep chats going even when you are out of texting credit, a welcome perk if your contacts also have it enabled.

Day to day organization is a standout. You can file conversations into categories, keeping personal threads separate from business messages without fuss. An effective spam filter works in the background to catch suspected scams and junk texts, reducing clutter and protecting your privacy. Notifications can float as chat bubbles for quick replies, and there are granular toggles for things like prioritizing faster photo sending, choosing outgoing and incoming message sounds, pinch-to-zoom text sizing in conversations, and expressive animations. Comfort features like dark mode and voice message transcription are on board, and you can bring in Gemini to suggest replies. Google Lens integration is available as well.

There are caveats. RCS support still varies, creating a split between SMS and RCS that can make features feel inconsistent across different carriers and contacts. Interactions with people on other platforms may limit what you can do, and not everyone in a group will see the same enhancements.
