Each cup blends returning favorites with routes inspired by real-world locations, refreshed in rotating tours that keep the scenery changing. The cast is huge, and collecting drivers, karts, and gliders becomes its own pursuit. You earn coins while racing, then use them and other resources on randomized draws for new gear and upgrades. It is exciting, but the reliance on microtransactions can make hunting for specific characters or parts feel slow.

Races hinge on smart item play. Classic tools like shells, mushrooms, and the star return, and Frenzy Mode steals the show. Nab three of the same item and you enter a brief burst of invincibility that floods the track with power-ups, perfect for a late surge. Expect wild swings though, since tricky layouts and enemy traps can turn a lead into a scramble in a heartbeat.

There is more to do than standard circuits. Bonus challenges twist the formula with tasks like taking down a giant boss or mowing through Goombas, encouraging different strategies. Competitive players can chase global time trial records and climb online leaderboards by experimenting with driver, kart, and glider combinations to squeeze out higher scores.

Multiplayer is available, letting you race with up to seven others from around the world. Lobbies support custom rules, including team or solo formats, item slot counts, and kart speeds, which helps tailor the action. Not everything will click for everyone, especially the portrait-only view that can feel cramped, but the variety of modes and constant tours make this a lively, content-rich spin around the track.
