Library management is straightforward. You can sort your collection by author, title, or recent purchases, and the storefront makes it easy to browse, read reviews, and sample chapters before you buy. There is also plenty of free material, so exploring new authors does not have to cost anything. Language support is broad, covering English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and more.

Once you open a book, the focus stays on reading. Kindle includes a built-in dictionary and quick lookups that pull additional context from sources like Wikipedia, plus extras that surface characters, places, themes, quotes, and glossaries when available. Annotation tools are comprehensive, with highlighting, notes, bookmarks, and dictionary lookup just a tap away. The app can handle PDFs too, with pan controls for navigating pages. For periodicals, high resolution color images enhance newspapers and magazines.

Customization options help you tune the experience. You can change text size, adjust brightness, switch background colors, and read in portrait or landscape. Recent interface updates add a book cover to the lock screen, a bottom navigation bar that separates Home, Library, and your current read from settings, and quicker access to menus. Swiping left reveals your 20 most recent reads, which makes jumping back into favorites simple.

There are a couple of limitations. There is no zoom control while reading, and there is no preferences section to deeply customize how lists are displayed. Even so, with its integrated store, generous catalog, and thoughtful reading tools, Kindle remains an appealing choice for anyone who spends a lot of time with ebooks.
