Loot-heavy hack and slash with bite-sized quests and pushy monetization

Dungeon Hunter 5 casts you as the head of a bounty hunting crew, tackling quick, mission-driven dungeons that are easy to dip into. Objectives vary on paper, from assassinations to rescues, but the loop rarely changes: clear mobs, topple a boss, crack a chest, collect cards and move on. It is built for short sessions, though the sameness sets in fast.

Combat uses a virtual stick and on-screen buttons. Your default strike comes from your equipped weapon, with extra abilities unlocked by the gear you wear. Loot is the backbone here. Weapons and armor drop frequently and carry elemental affinities, and the game even recommends which element to bring before each quest. Post-run, you earn equipment cards and can upgrade gear with two systems. Fusion lets you feed extra items into favorites to boost stats, while Evolution offers direct upgrades that are locked behind rare materials.

Progression hits an early speed bump. The tutorial is a breeze, but by around the fifth mission enemies spawn in larger groups and hit harder, and the controls make escapes tricky. You can recruit another player’s hero for support, yet the partner AI mostly soaks damage before collapsing.

Monetization weighs heavily. There is no traditional shop to spend all that gold, so you rely on drops. Premium gems open chests, expand inventory, and refill resources, and even basic health potions require gems. You are awarded four gems after a level, but a single potion costs seven, which nudges you toward grinding or paying. The game also demands a constant internet connection, which adds waits between menus and rules out offline play.

On the bright side, the world has solid voice work that sells the setting. Still, between the fixed camera that lets off-screen foes ambush you and the repetitive encounters, depth-seeking RPG fans may feel underserved.

Pros:

- Short gameplay missions

Cons:

- Data connection required all the time

- Forces in-app purchases

- Repetitive gameplay
